Cintec Ltd
London firm of Brookside Road, N19, that in 1962 offered the Cineroma: a self-contained 16 mm mobile cinema built into a Land Rover 109 station wagon, with a Bell & Howell projector, roof-mounted horn speakers and a generator driven by the vehicle's own engine, sold as a Rover-approved conversion to government departments, UNICEF and companies for open-air audiences abroad.
History
Nothing beyond its address and its one product has been traced for Cintec. The Cineroma leaflet of 1962, a two-page sales sheet in the Vlothuizen brochure archive, records it as an approved conversion on the 109-inch station wagon for the international market, built to tropical specification: a Bell & Howell 640 16 mm projector, re-entrant horn loudspeakers on the roof and a 3 kVA generator run from the Land Rover's engine, so that a single vehicle could set up a film show for several hundred people anywhere it could drive. Mobile cinemas of this kind were bought by colonial and post-colonial information departments, UN agencies and commercial advertisers in the 1950s and 1960s. Whether Cintec built more than a handful, or anything else, is not recorded.
