History
The only trace of this workshop found during research is a single credit in the Spanish commercial-vehicle press. Writing about a Santana 2000 converted into an expedition motorhome, Solo Camión records that 'Sobre un chasis cabina, el Taller de Carrocería Manuel Santana construyó la nueva estructura para albergar la autocaravana' — on a chassis-cab, the Manuel Santana body shop built the new structure to house the camper. The finished vehicle stands 2,980 mm tall against the standard truck's 2,235 mm, with a double bed over the cab, a bathroom with shower, a two-burner gas kitchen, refrigerator, air conditioning, a 2,000 W heater, 25 W of solar panels and a convertible dinette.
No location, founding date, proprietor's history or other work by the firm could be traced, and it is not clear whether it still trades. The name is also easily confused with unrelated Spanish body shops trading as Carrocerías Santana, and with Santana Motor of Linares, the Land Rover licensee that built the base vehicle — no connection between them is established.
One date needs care. The registry's vehicle record for the camper gives 20 March 1989 as the date the body was completed; re-reading the Solo Camión article for this entry indicates that date is the manufacture date of the Santana 2000 chassis, and that the article gives no date for the coachwork itself.
