Special · Breakdown
AA Road Service Series I 88 Hard Top — front three-quarter render

History

After the success of its first Land Rover with the London Night Patrols in 1949, the Automobile Association extended radio-equipped Land Rover patrols to Birmingham in 1951 and Leeds in 1952, and through the decade the yellow Land Rovers became the face of the AA's Road Service. The 88-inch hard tops carried a two-way radio, tools, fuel and a spare on the bonnet, and wore the yellow-and-black scheme with the AA badge on each front wing and on the hard-top sides above ROAD SERVICE.

PYU 15 is documented by Oxford Diecast's 1:43 (LAN188019) and 1:76 (76LAN188019) models of the vehicle, which are the references here: yellow body and hard-top sides, black roof and black-painted front wing sides, bonnet spare, AA badges on both wing fronts and both hard-top sides, ROAD SERVICE on the hard-top sides, PYU 15 on the front bumper and black steel wheels. The registry model reproduces that vehicle in the Breakdown group; the size of the AA's Series I fleet is not given in the sources.
