Bandiana UN Series 2A Ambulance
1963 Australian Army Series 2A 109-inch 'Bloodbox' ambulance preserved in white United Nations livery at the Army Museum Bandiana, Victoria, representing the Australian medical vehicles that served with UN missions; plain white with red crosses on the body sides and rear doors and UN on the cab doors.
History
The Australian Army's Series 2A 109 ambulances were bodied by Pressed Metal Corporation with a tall four-stretcher box behind the standard cab — the 'Bloodbox' — and served from the early 1960s through Vietnam and on into the 1990s. Some went abroad with Australian UN contingents, most visibly the Force Communications Unit's ambulances with UNTAC in Cambodia in 1992–93, repainted white with red crosses and UN lettering.
The Army Museum Bandiana keeps this 1963 example in that white UN scheme to represent Australian UN medical support. Wikimedia Commons' photographs show it in the museum hall: white body and wheels, a plain red cross on each side of the box and on the rear doors, UN in black on the cab doors and the stretcher fit still inside. The registry model puts that livery on the Bloodbox body without the roundel crosses and beacon of the Army version.
