Brighton Fire Brigade HCB-Angus 109
HUF 999E, Brighton Fire Brigade's 1967 Land Rover Series IIA 109 with HCB-Angus rear bodywork — 300 gph pump, 60-gallon tank, capstan winch and twin roller-shutter hose lockers — the brigade's restricted-access appliance for the Lanes and the marina for 22 years, now preserved.
History
Brighton's medieval Lanes are too narrow for a full-size pump, so in 1967 the borough fire brigade took a Series IIA 109 bodied by HCB-Angus of Totton: a 300 gallons-per-minute pump fed from a 60-gallon tank, hose lockers behind aluminium roller shutters on each side, a capstan winch on the front bumper and a roof gantry for the ladder. It served the Lanes, the seafront and later the marina for 22 years, passing into East Sussex Fire Brigade on the 1974 reorganisation, and survives in its Brighton livery on the preservation circuit.
The Market's sale photograph is the reference: red Series IIA with a red roof and red wheels, the HCB-Angus body with its shuttered lockers, a red roof gantry carrying a wooden ladder and a blue beacon at the front, two lamps over the windscreen, the capstan on the bumper, the brigade shield on the doors, chrome mirrors and black HUF 999E plates. The registry model reproduces that vehicle in the Fire group. Country fields (built and operated in the United Kingdom) are confirmed by the listing.
