Czech Army Defender 90 Station Wagon Observer — front three-quarter render

History

The Czech Army bought civilian-specification 300Tdi Defenders in the 1990s for its rapid-deployment units. On STRONG RESOLVE 2002, the Czech paras of 2 Company, 43rd Airborne Battalion, 4th Rapid Deployment Brigade, ran soft-top Defender 110s as PFOR peacekeeping role-players, and Bob Morrison spotted this Defender 90 Tdi station wagon being used as a staff vehicle by the Czechs while waiting for transport at the Wędrzyn training area. It carried military rear bumperettes and the same style of bull bar as the 110s, but its spare wheel was on the rear door rather than the bonnet and it had the fold-down side steps normally seen on station wagons. The paint was the standard NATO IRR green; the white O stencilled on the doors showed it was an observer vehicle rather than a PFOR role-player, and the Czech flag and roundel were affixed to the sides of all the Land Rovers so nobody could mistake who they were dealing with. How many Defender 90 station wagons the Czech Army ran is not stated in the source.

The registry's model is the Defender 90 station wagon in NATO green with the bull bar, side steps, rear bumperettes, roundel, flag and O from the photograph; the plate is left blank as it is not legible.
