Czech Airborne Defender 110 Command Post

History

The Czech Army bought civilian-specification Tdi Defenders in the 1990s and partially militarised them; by IDET 2005 in Brno the Defender 110 windowed hard top was in use with the Czech paras as a command and communications vehicle, and four of them were formed up under camouflage nets as a mobile battalion-level command post. Bob Morrison could not get decent external photographs of them inside the dark hall, but those he examined all had substantial roof racks with built-in antenna mounts and were configured to carry specialist communications kit, with another antenna mount on the front left wing, rear-mounted spare wheels, bumper-mounted Warn winches and brush guards. Based on the civilian 300Tdi Defender, they had been partially militarised with 24-volt electrical systems for the communications packages; inside, the right side took two forward-facing radio operators with workstations in front of them and secure lockers were built into the left side — far less cluttered, he noted, than the British Army's Bowman installations of the time.

The registry's model is the Defender 110 windowed hard top in olive with the roof rack, antenna mounts and whips, brush guard, winch, rear spare and Czech roundels described in the source; the queue's supplied photograph shows the Military Police hard top from the same show, whose brush guard and rack were used for styling, as no clear photograph of the command post itself exists in the source. The workstations inside are not modelled.
