History

Maryport Inshore Rescue is an independent lifeboat service on the Solway coast of Cumbria, founded in 1975 and run by volunteers without RNLI funding. Its boats cover the Solway's fast tides and mudflats and its crews also turn out for mud, cliff and flood rescues along the shore, so the station has always needed road vehicles that can launch and recover the boat from rough slipways and get a crew across the sands. In 2012 it ran two Land Rovers: G693 NHH, a 1990 Defender 110 station wagon fitted out as the lifeboat tow and ambulance vehicle, and PX60 UAB, a 2010 Defender 90 hard top.

The Flickr photograph shows both outside the boathouse: the 110 in dark teal-blue with a white roof, an orange stripe below the windows, a MARYPORT RESCUE light bar with blue and orange lamps, a full-length roof rack carrying spot lamps, the spare on the bonnet, a snorkel on the left A-pillar, AMBULANCE on the bonnet lip, a covered winch and blue lamps on the front bumper, the station's crest on the front doors and RESCUE CREW across the top of the windscreen; the 90 behind it in the same scheme with a light bar, rack and MARYPORT RESCUE sun strip. The registry models reproduce both — this record is the 110, with the 90 as its companion in the Marine group.

Corrected at review: the door crest is the Maryport Rescue badge — a rope-edged ring, yellow field quartered by a red cross with lifeboat, anchor, lighthouse and ship, and a MARYPORT RESCUE banner.
