Sefton Beach Patrol Defender 110
Sefton Council Beach Patrol and Lifeguard Unit Land Rover Defender 110 station wagon S380 ADB, yellow with a full-length roof rack, amber RANGER light bar, snorkel and an orange rescue board, photographed on Waterloo beach, Merseyside, in June 2009.
History
Sefton Council's Beach Patrol and Lifeguard Unit covers the Merseyside coast from Crosby and Waterloo north through Formby to Southport — a wide, flat beach with fast tides and soft sand that catches walkers and vehicles alike. The unit's rangers and lifeguards have long used yellow Land Rovers to reach casualties and to close the beach when the tide turns, and the Td5 Defender 110 station wagons of the late 1990s served for over a decade.
The Flickr photograph shows S380 ADB (a 1998–99 S-registration Td5) on Waterloo beach in June 2009: yellow 110 station wagon with a full-length roof rack carrying an orange rescue board, an amber light bar with a white RANGER panel at the front of the rack, a raised-air-intake snorkel on the right A-pillar, the blue Sefton crest on the front doors, red BEACH PATROL / AND LIFEGUARD UNIT lettering on the rear body sides, white steel wheels, and the standard black bumper with a white front plate. The registry model reproduces that vehicle.
