Thatchers Cider Cask Defender
Thatchers Cider's promotional Land Rover Defender, C12 VAT: a 2.4-litre Puma Defender 110 single-cab pickup new in October 2011, in cream with a giant oak cider cask lying in its tub under a THATCHERS board, a roof rack and LED bar on the cab and Thatchers roundels on the doors, photographed at a show in May 2022 with 63,440 miles recorded that March.
History
Thatchers Cider has been made by the Thatcher family at Myrtle Farm in Sandford, Somerset, since 1904, and the firm uses eye-catching vehicles at shows and festivals. This Defender 110 pickup, first registered in October 2011 with the 2402 cc Ford Duratorq Puma diesel and wearing the cherished plate C12 VAT, carries a huge oak cask built onto its load bed — barrel-shaped with silver hoops, its top well above the cab roof, with a THATCHERS sign board mounted on top — along with a roof rack and LED light bar on the cab, Thatchers roundels on the doors and black wheel arches. It had covered 63,440 miles by March 2022 and was photographed at a show that May. Who built the cask body is not recorded.
The registry's model is the Defender 110 single-cab pickup in cream with the bulged cask, hoops, sign board, rack, light bar, roundels and plates from the photograph.
