Tropical Roof Station Wagon
Factory metal-bodied Series I 107-inch station wagon from 1955 with the double-skinned Tropical Roof — a second aluminium roof panel carried on spacers over the main roof with ventilators at its edges, to keep the interior cool in hot climates.
History
When Land Rover replaced the coachbuilt Tickford station wagon with its own metal-bodied 107-inch station wagon in 1955 — a ten-seater aimed at the export markets of Africa, Australia and the Middle East — it offered the Tropical Roof: a second skin of aluminium mounted on spacers above the main roof so that air drawn through ventilators along the roof edges flowed between the two panels and carried away the sun's heat, an arrangement that became standard on later Safari station wagons. The Wikimedia Commons photograph shows a 1957 example in red with bare aluminium door frames and cappings and the roof's ventilator slots visible along its side. Wikipedia's Land Rover Series history records the wagon and its roof among the factory variants.
The registry's model is a Series I long-wheelbase station wagon in red with the spaced second roof skin, ventilator slots and aluminium door frames; the game's Series I long chassis stands in for the 107.
