UNAMID Defender 110 Medical Vehicle (Nyala 2011) — front three-quarter render

History

UNAMID, the joint African Union–UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur, ran from 2007 to 2020 and at its height was the largest UN operation in the world, with tens of thousands of troops and police spread across bases in the three Darfur states. Its light vehicle fleet was the standard UN white, largely Toyota and Nissan pick-ups, but Land Rover Defender 110s served too, and this station wagon at Nyala carried the red crescent as a unit medical vehicle.

The Flickr photographs from November 2011 show it under an awning at the Nyala base: white with the UN fleet plate UNAMID 32252 on the front bumper, a red crescent and UNAMID in red on the rear body sides, a red beacon on the roof front, a whip aerial, black wheel-arch eyebrows and white steel wheels. The registry model reproduces those markings on the Defender 110 station wagon.
