Windischgarsten KLF-A Hose-Layer

Freiwillige Feuerwehr Windischgarsten's KLF-A, a 1997 Defender 110 rebuilt as a Kleinlöschfahrzeug-Allrad carrying 480 metres of pre-coupled B hose in three sections for rapid hose-line laying, comprehensively refurbished by Rosenbauer in 2020 with LED lighting, digital radio and new suspension rather than being replaced.

History

Windischgarsten's volunteer fire brigade in the Upper Austrian Pyhrn-Priel region runs a Pinzgauer 6x6 and this Defender 110 as its off-road pair. The Defender, FW 235 KI, entered service in 1997 as a KLF-A — the Austrian small all-wheel-drive fire vehicle class — equipped as a hose-layer with 480 metres of pre-coupled B hose in three sections so that a supply line can be laid at speed up mountain tracks. In 2020 the brigade chose sustainability over replacement and had Rosenbauer strip and refurbish the vehicle: new suspension, LED warning and scene lighting, digital radio and a refreshed body, as tips.at reported in 2021 with the pair photographed against the Sengsengebirge. The Defender wears fire red with a white cab roof and a raised white roof module over the rear, a blue LED bar above a WINDISCHGARSTEN sign, a quilted hose bundle carried on the front bumper, white side stripes and FEUERWEHR WINDISCHGARSTEN panels, KLF-A on the doors and the 122 emergency number.

The registry's model is a red Defender 110 station wagon with the white roofs and raised rear module, light bar and sign, front hose bundle, stripes and lettering and white wheels; in the game it carries water-pool pickups and the blue-light boost.
