History

The Wolf (Truck Utility Medium, Heavy Specification) entered British service from 1996–98 as the strengthened military Defender 110 with the 300 Tdi engine. A large share of the fleet was built Fitted For Radio: a 24-volt electrical system with a second alternator and battery box powered the Clansman radios of the day and, from the mid-2000s, the Bowman digital installation. Think Defence's 2022 review of options for replacing the Army's Land Rover fleet pictured the hard-top FFR variant — windowless hard top, snorkel on the left A-pillar, mesh headlamp guards, a stowage bin on the rear body and antenna base mounts along the hard-top side — as the archetypal signals vehicle of the fleet. Production numbers for the FFR hard top specifically are not published.

The registry's model is a Defender 110 hard top in NATO green with the Wolf door mirrors, snorkel, headlamp guards, stowage bin, two antenna base masts, bonnet lettering and black steel wheels.
