Titan Défense

The military refuelling arm of the Titan group at Arnas, near Villefranche-sur-Saône: tank trucks since 1955, aircraft refuellers as Titan Aviation from 1986 and, from 2018, Titan Défense for tactical refuellers, forward arming and refuelling points and the helicopter dispenser fitted to the French special forces' Land Rover Véhicule Tactique d'Avitaillement.

History

The group descends from Groupe Pourprix, a metalworking firm dating from 1883 that built machines for the food industry, moved into energy-sector subcontracting in the 1970s and in the early 1990s into custom aluminium and stainless-steel tanks for storing and transporting hydrocarbons. Titan itself was created in 1955 to build tank trucks and semi-trailers, and Titan Aviation followed in 1986 for civil and military aircraft refuelling equipment, absorbing the refueller maker IVE in 1995, adding an after-sales subsidiary in 1996, an Indian joint venture in 2005 and an Algerian subsidiary in 2015.

Titan Défense was set up in 2018 to carry the military side — tactical refuellers from 5,000 to 22,000 litres, containerised fuel stations and the FARP range for refuelling helicopters in the field. Its ROTOR dispenser, developed with the Service des Essences des Armées, moves fuel from a tactical transport aircraft's tanks to a waiting helicopter, and the earlier Véhicule Tactique d'Avitaillement mounted the same idea on a Land Rover for the Commandement des Opérations Spéciales, with three converted in 2010 while the business still traded as Titan Aviation. The group claims more than eighty per cent of sales abroad and over 5,000 units in more than 100 countries. In 2023 it was bought by the Klubb Group, the French aerial-platform maker, with the Japanese bodybuilder YANO, and renamed Titan Aero Group; Titan Aviation became Titan Aero.
