Perentie 6×6 Oman Logistics Vehicle
Perentie 6x6 Logistics Vehicle built by Jaguar Rover Australia for the Government of Oman: an open-cab, roll-caged 6x6 with a long dropside cargo tray in desert pink, one of eleven Oman vehicles among the only fourteen Perenties ever exported; a survivor is in the Dunsfold Collection.
History
The Perentie was Jaguar Rover Australia's heavy-duty Land Rover 110 family for the Australian Army's Project Perentie, built at Moorebank from 1987 with an Isuzu 4BD1 diesel, and the 6x6 version put a third axle under a longer, stronger chassis to carry two tonnes across the outback. JRA had high hopes of exports, but in the end only fourteen Perenties left Australia, all of them 6x6s.
Eleven of those were Logistics Vehicles for the Government of Oman: 6x6 chassis finished in desert pink with an open cab — no roof, doors or windscreen, a tubular roll cage over the two seats — and a long dropside cargo tray behind, with the standard Perentie bull bar. Key Military's "Six wheels on my wagon" feature photographed one working in the dunes, and one of the Oman vehicles is now preserved in the Dunsfold Collection in Surrey. The registry model strips the 6x6 soft top down to its chassis and cab body and adds the cage, seats and tray from the photograph.
