SFOR UN Pulse Ambulance (Bosnia) — front three-quarter render

History

The Marshall-bodied Pulse ambulance on the Defender 130 chassis was the British Army's battlefield ambulance from the early 1990s, its tall composite box carrying four stretchers behind a standard Defender cab. When British troops served in Bosnia — first with the UN Protection Force and, from December 1996, with the NATO-led Stabilisation Force (SFOR), which operated under a UN Security Council mandate but was not a UN force — some of the medical fleet kept the UN's white livery and simply added SFOR to it.

H115 BAU is one of those: white overall with UN and SFOR lettered on the box front above an AMBULANCE plate and an RAF roundel, big red crosses on the box sides and rear doors with SFOR behind them, UN and the UN emblem on the front doors, a large blue beacon on a plinth at the front of the box roof, two blue lamps low on the bumper and the spare on the bonnet. It survives in preservation and is modelled from a Flickr photograph.
